The Conditioned Place-Preference (CPP) Apparatus is commonly used in the assessment of the rewarding or aversive properties of drugs or to identify the neuronal basis of reinforcement expression. Typically, the test involves association of an environment with drug effects, followed by the association of a different environment without the administration of drugs. Stoelting’s Conditioned Place-Preference Apparatus is comprised of two chambers, barrier block and context kit for altering the environment of each chamber.
Environmental/Spatial Place Conditioning
The Conditioned Place Preference (CPP) Apparatus is used in a wide variety of paradigms. Most commonly it is used in the assessment of the rewarding property of drugs (or other natural reinforcers) or to identify the neuronal basis of reinforcement expression. Typically, a drug is injected, and the animal is placed in a test chamber with distinctive environmental cues. This procedure is repeated for several days.
